Roaming the exhibit area of any trade show can be mind-boggling. The array of products available can fog the mind of even the most seasoned attendee. The gallery here pulls out seeding and application tools from a cover-crop seeder to a hemp planter – yep, a hemp planter.
Innovations in bringing seed to soil and maximizing that relationship continue to amaze. From a big-rig applicator that can apply a range of products to a simple connection on an air-seeder row unit that enhances seed-to-soil contact, you’ll find it here.
There’s even a high-tech tool that provides air seeder row-by row control, and it works with several systems. So, click through the slideshow and see what we found for innovations in seeding and application.

Needham Ag has developed a new closing system for Case IH 500/500T and New Holland 2080/2085 air seeders. This new system is designed to achieve seed slot closure, even in higher-moisture soils and where high residue levels exist. The key is the Needham Angle Changer that mounds around the factory closing wheel arm tube and increases the gathering action of the closing system. The angle changer is a special connection that angles the crumbler closing wheel at the back. The angle changer is $65 per row and works with either the 2-by-13-inch wheel or the Poly 20 Crumbler Wheel (shown).
The Intellidrive system will provide individual row control for an air seeder. The Iowa company, a first-time exhibitor at the National Farm Machinery Show, says the system uses 10 to 12 electric motors (depending on air-seeder size) and can work from tractor power through the ISO plug without the need for an extra generator. The system can be calibrated for seed size or pounds, and the software will store up to 10 calibrations. The system is compatible with a range of monitors, including the John Deere 2630 and 4640, the Case IH Pro 700 and the New Holland InCommand 1200. The cost ranges from $10,500 to $12,500, depending on the size of the seeder. Learn more at intellidriveusa.com.
